This is a testimate to number 19. I'm not saying this was a fail at all. Because it's not at all, it's a great learning process. However, the outcome isn't exactly as I had planned. Still wonderful in it's own way! Learned alot  and can't wait to experiment more! I thought I would share with all of you as you're my people. I share my success's and my not so great moments with you all. I recently have been following tim Holtz and his announcement that he'll no longer be doing the 12 tags of Christmas and instead will be doing the 12 tags of 2012. His first tag of February inspired me to create other than a tag. he used a wonderful heart on it and it inspired me to try some of the wonderful book art I have seen. Here is my tutorial on it and some hints to help you if you wish to try. Following it, are some of my inspirations to try this task! I have tons of ideas for it in the future!

Post a comment on this post and have a chance to win................... these great Prima flowers!!!! Winner will be announced on Friday morning! And don't forget to check out how to win the fab February giveaways by sharing about my blog as well as sharing your craft space.

Get a book and then strip the cover from it.

Trace a shape. I choose something simple to start and did a heart shape. I then took my craft knife in combo with scissors and cut through the book pages. Please remember to be frickin careful if you try this. A slip of a page or anything and you can seriously mess yourself up SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL! I'm sure those long time followers remember last year when I cut off the the tip of my finger and it was stitched back on, of course I still found a way to craft, none the less it took 6 months before I had full use of it and feeling to it! So the next images are frickin nasty but I only show them because I love every one of you and want you to always be safe!

OK WE ALL GET TO BE SAFE NOW RIGHT... ok good. Lets move on!

Keep cutting the shape out in sections, little by little.

Don't worry about how rough it looks we'll address that later.

Now you have it all cut out. A piece of advice from my learning. Choose a nice fat thick book. I found mine wasn't as thick as I had desired for the effect I wanted.

Be prepared for a hella mess.... as seen here.

I then took the whole piece and sanded it against a very gritty/coarse sand paper. This will help alot with the uneven edges. it help then doing sections of it to also clip it to keep its shape as you sand.

Not take the cover. I added masking tape layers to the spine as when I pulled the book pages out I tore alittle too much. So I used the tape to reinforce it.

I then applied gessi to the entire book, front and back.

I then covered one side of the book in Helmar 450... hello happiness in the most amazing glue ever! What you haven't tried it? Remember you have a chance to win some this month!

I then crumpled some 7-Gypsies tissues paper.

Then applied it to the book cover, below you will see what it looked like when I flipped it over and glued it down as well. Trim excess pieces and make it work how you want to.

What it looks like.

I then covered all of the tissue in extra heavy gel medium.

I cute and distressed up some left over paper from my wine layout.

I glued the center pages together to ensure it didn't have the gap in the center from images pages I had pulled, in retrospect, I would not have glued these together if I could do it again and would instead put smalled heart book pages inside of this set.

Glued to the spine of the book.

Glues down one side of the heart and then the other.

Smoosh and clamp.

Now like I said this was a learning experience. As you can see it's not really great looking. Now the book itself is not done, however I can't really tell it's a heart unless I'm looking at it the right way. Live and learn. None the less I'll be doing it again!

Here were what inspired me to try this task. Amazing right? Now I do understand these books are mostly bent pages but well lets say i was pretty sure cutting would be easier.. lol

Wine Layout

It's no secret for anyone that knows me that I adore a nice bottle of wine. However, I also have another weakness. Cheapo, fun labeled, fun named, bottles of wine. I'm not sure why but I'm drawn o a fun named bottle of wine. I know it's not goign to be the best on the shelf however I can't seem to help myself! This layout is a tribute to addiction. It showcases some of the fun wines I've picked up and then like any good crafter peeled the labels off. Not using them on this layout as well.... I'm sure there will be another page to use them on. Notice the one in the middle.. hee hee couldn't pass up a DONKEY wine. This was just a little 20 min layout, so nothing fancy. But I like that too sometimes.

I am posting some what in the tutorial style to show how I got where I did. As I know you all appreciate that.  Oh and i can't wait to share Thursday Tutorial with you all. It's pretty damn awesome if I do say so myself.

Some graph type paper from October Afternoon, then I added some pieces of masking tape and watered down gesso, to give it a white wash.

The layout in the works, planning and moving things around.

Some of the fun Hambly transparencies and then some fun paper rubbles. I debated on inking these up a a bit but decided on keep them clean. Imagine that!

Small tag I covered in masking tape and then white washed with gesso, love the texture it gives!

I gave the Tim Holtz flowers a squirt each of color and then propped up the layout, to allow for some fun not over the top dripage! Love dripage!

Added an oversized Daisy  D's rub-on I have had forever! I mean years! Love it though, love their rub-ons so frickin much because of all you can do with them.

Some more Hambly transparencies here. Just some white banners I cut out and added some Pink Paislee string to.

The finished product. Nice for a 20 min layout. Not my normal all inked up and distressed look and it was sorta refreshing.

I had some helpers in the craft room as I always do. My baby girl Knolla, she's about a year old and she follows me and watches me where ever I go. And of course my daughter was also in creating. This time learning to play with glitter and the crop a dile.

This is Knolla, Knolla HAtes and I mean hates to have her picture taken. This is always the face you get when you point a camera at her or she has to take a bath.

Desi (desiree) over the moon that I let her play/use the crop a dile and some glitters. She loves crafting!

Showing me a heart she was cutting out and giving the "i think I'm 16 when I'm only 6" smooch face.

Desi getting ready for bed but asked that I take a picture to show people how well she put on her lipstick before bed.. lmao She's got a little posing going on here too. New Helmar spokesperson.. hmmm maybe!

Wandering Wednesday!

Now this post is quite enlightening and sad. Not sad in a crying way, but more so in the WTH I've been missing out on some great motivation and talent.  First and foremost, I truly hope no one takes any offense to this post. It is not meant to be offensive in any way at all. Just being honest with myself here and everyone in the world who finds it interesting enough to read. hee hee

The last week or so things at work have been ubber slow! I mean I go through all blog updates, the hunt some pinterest, read all the online news that interest me and isn't blocked at work (they block all sports!! and honestly since football is over.. ehh I have no real interest in Basketball). So, back to it. I find myself then just surfing blogs! Looking to see who's a new follower and who follows them and so forth. Just random blog surfing! Yes, I'm that bored! In a month I'll have more than enough to do, but for now.... ya uneventful! At one point my boss let me bring in all my card making materials to make cards! I mean after all I make them for every employees, so it was sorta work! It only lasted about two hours come to find out crafting at work and it being okay......feels weird!

So, last week I got received a comment from a .......(gasp).......... "Man"!!!! Now his comment was nice and was on my giveaway post stating he wanted to participate as well and that he in fact was not a woman as my post addressed "the ladies". First impression "Oh no!!! Some perv got on my blog, he wants to "play" all right but its not with the challenge!" haha now before anyone goes and gets their panties in a bunch, just take a moment to think of your first impression when a man posts a comment on a crafting blog. It's something new.  I was indeed dumbfounded when I went to look at his crafting blog. It was witty, funny, and totally full of energy! I mean you all think I have energy and am bouncing off the walls, and shop too much, but this guy very well may out do my "bounciness".

Kory in fact enjoys paper crafting. I was in awe! HOW FRICKIN COOL! So, then I did some digging and Oh My Word! I never judge anyone.. and I mean anyone! Judgement sucks in all aspects, but I felt horrible when I realized not only was there a large stream of MEN crafters, but they were actually amazing! I'm not talking just good, I'm talking about motivational and very talented. WOW oh WOW.

I mean you could have knocked me over with a feather. I mean we all know Tim Holtz! We all love him! But I guess I never really thought of other men paper crafting! I had seen some art blogs where there was painting and such but never layouts and cards and well, like I said nieve me! I feel like now I've been missing out. Their approach to writing/blogging and their crafting is different! And I LOVE IT> Now everyone knows me, once that window has opened there's no closing it so I sought out other male crafters! Just blown away I tell you! I'm adding links to their blogs below here and hope that you pay them a visit, follow them if you enjoy and think they may inspire you as well.  I mean when I stumbled upon them I felt like someone had been hididng something from me, wasn't Tim the only male crafter.... haha. Well men, the secret is out! and I'm spreading the word! If you happen to stop by them, leave them a comment and let them know Craft Donkey sent you.

Do you know of any male crafting blogs, please feel free to share away. I'd love to discover even more men who are as in love with crafting as I am!

This & That Tuesday: Linking Craft Room Pictures

I wanted to pop in real fast say woo hoo for those of you whom have been posting pictures of your craft spaces! I wanted to remind you however that when you upload them the link from your blog should be a direct link to that picture. So that when people click to see your space their not just being taken to your blog but the direct link to the direct post with that picture on it. Make sense?

Just making sure because its hard to search someones blog for the pictures of their blog and if you just uploaded from your computer that's okay, we however can not see a large image of your space then. So, just something to keep in mind.

I'd love to post something sweet however, I don't believe today is a Holiday, haha I'd much rather my bf give me flowers or plan a special date on some random day then when everyone else is being forced to do the same. Oddly enough this is hard for my bf because he's truly a romantic. The kind that slips love notes into your pocket to find on your way to work romantic. LOL

Stay tuned tomorrow for Wandering Wednesday! I have a doosie of a post.

Teen Boy Card +video

I created a card tonight for a teen boy. It's very rustic and messy as I know that is to this particular young man's liking. I did not have any sound for this video as I was.... multi tasking watching House at the same time. LOL.  It took longer then I wanted on this busy evening of 2 parent teacher conferences and getting Valentine's Day stuff ready for the parties tomorrow for both classes. However it was fun to just create for a bit. We need that. A little escape even if the project doesn't turn out as well as we wanted or took too long. If you believe in V Day, I wish you the best tomorrow. I don't believe in it at all, and opt for a no gift exchange policy, so it's just another day to me other than the kid's classroom parties. (make note i suck at putting the right day on my camera)
